TALENTED YOUNGSTER DEMONSTRATES HER PAINTING PROWESS
A highly-talented, 14 year-old Mold schoolgirl has stunned SAR Force personnel with her painting prowess. Emily Speakman presented them with her oil painting showing a C Flight 22 Squadron Sea King flying over the sea near Holyhead. Her painting is titled “BRENIN Y MOR” translating aptly to ‘The Sea King’.
Emily Speakman (14) of Bro Alun, Mold in North Wales is already a highly-accomplished artist and accurately captured the Sea King in flight over the sea, just off the coast of Holyhead. Emily said she wanted to donate her painting to the RAF SAR Force HQ saying, “I’m fascinated with the Sea King.” Sergeant Martin ‘Seaweed’ Seward, duty radar/winch operator said, “Emily’s painting is of such a high quality that I was completely blown away. It’s hard to believe it was painted by a 14 year old.”
Emily visited SAR Force HQ accompanied by her mother Lynda, twin brother Harry and grandfather Mr Eric Williams. After presenting the painting to Flt Lt Jon Ewer - SAR duty Captain - Emily and her family were taken inside the duty SAR Sea King and were briefed on the SAR Force’s roles, not only in Wales, but across the UK. By good fortune, this was the same helicopter depicted in Emily’s painting.
Emily’s mother, Lynda, and grandfather Mr Eric Williams are extremely proud of Emily’s accomplishments and said it was a fitting tribute to have her painting proudly displayed on the walls of the SAR Force Headquarters. Considering that Emily has only been painting for just over 2 years, her ability is outstanding. When asked what made her put brush to canvas, Emily said, “I used to watch a TV programme on art and asked my mother for an oil-painting set and that was the start of it.”
